New Jersey Poetry and Writing Groups.

New Jersey has no State Poet Laureate position. Your writing assignment, if you should decide to accept it, is to write your New Jersey State Legislator and ask that a bill be introduced ‘creating a New Jersey State Poet Laureate position.’ The new bill can correct the flaws of the former bill. You might suggest that a New Jersey Poet Laureate be appointed by the Governor from nominations by poetry groups in New Jersey and the New Jersey Arts Commission. The Poet Laureate could serve a two year term, unpaid. Many State Poet Laureates receive funds from the National Endowment on the Arts. Poet Laureates play an important role in supporting literacy in the State and create enthusiasm for reading and the literary arts.
The addresses for members of the New Jersey State Legislature are in the link above. Write soon!
